SCORM 1.2 or 2004: which should you choose?
Choose the format your LMS supports and your administrator already uses. Shadow Capture exports both; the learner gets the same interactive walkthrough.
Start with your LMS
Check the supported SCORM versions before you export. “SCORM 2004” has several editions; Shadow Capture’s 2004 export uses 4th Edition. Support for an earlier edition does not establish support for this one.
Moodle’s native SCORM activity supports 1.2, while TalentLMS lists SCORM 1.2 among its supported eLearning protocols. Use the 1.2 export for these platforms. See the Moodle SCORM FAQ and TalentLMS protocol guide.
What stays the same
Both Shadow Capture exports include the player, recorded screens, fonts and supporting files. Both report completion and session time, and save the learner’s position and mode for resume. Neither reports a score or a passed/failed result.
SCORM 2004 can support more complex sequencing and separate completion and success states. A Shadow Capture walkthrough is a single content object and does not use those features to provide a scored assessment.
What differs in the sample packages
The downloadable samples contain the same expense approval walkthrough. Each zip has 17 files and is about 423 KB. The manifest and launch page differ between versions.

Verify before assigning training
- Download the sample version your LMS supports.
- Upload the zip as a SCORM activity or course unit.
- Open it as a learner, complete a few steps, close it and check that relaunching resumes the walkthrough.
- Finish the walkthrough and check completion and time in the LMS report.
If the course requires a passing score, change that completion rule: these packages do not send one. Add a separate LMS quiz when your training needs a graded result.
